It is not a common sight to see a tortoise beat the rabbit; this may sound a little exaggerated but you will find it shocking to see this video of Porsche 918 Spyder in a high-speed battle against Koenigsegg Agera R.
At the German Autobahn, we saw the 918 Spyder unexpectedly touching 217 mph mark, siding to the Agera R. This is the same speed the Spyder reached during a stunt in Australia. The Agera R, which has a machine that delivers 1,140hp, was probably faster than this, but both supercars had attained speeds that were quite risky for the race – the road was wet and traffic was clearly seen.
The video was filmed from the Porsche’s cockpit and shows some good close-ups of the speedometer throughout the race. But what really made the Spyder cross its conventional speed of 214mph?
We can only conclude that the wind was favorable at the time of the race or the road was actually downhill. We missed out on the chance of noting the speed of Agera R during the highway race but knowing the hypercar has a 5.0L twin turbo V8 engine that can reach the breakneck speed of 273mph, odds are with a roadway stretch of just a few more miles, the aggressive car would have crossed the 918 Spyder.
Porsche announced sellout of all its plug-in hybrid cars in December 2014, each of which costs $845,000. It may seem pricey but is cheap in comparison to its $1,520,000 competitor supercar.
