We all thought that the XFR was a super saloon in its own right, but it seems that the engineers over at Jaguar don’t think that the 503 horsepower brute is quite fast enough as it is. The legendary British marque has confirmed that it will be soon unveiling an even more performance oriented model, the XFR-S.
Details are currently quite sketchy, but it seems that the XFR-S will boast the same supercharged 5.0 engine that’s currently found in the XKR-S coupe. That engine puts out 550 horsepower, and propels the XKR-S to 60 in just 4.4 seconds. The XFR weighs a good 200kg more than the XKR, so we might see some weight reduction or perhaps even more power in order to bring the XFR-S’s 0-60 time close to that of the XKR-S.
It’s no surprise that Jaguar have decided to give the XF even more power; BMW’s new M5 is currently the best super saloon on the market, and the XFR-S will be designed to compete with it. The M5 has 560hp, which could well be slightly more than the XFR-S, but the Jaguar is considerably lighter, and will probably have a similar 0-60 time of around 4.4 seconds. Only track times will tell us which the better car is.
Reports suggest that the car will be officially unveiled in a few days’ time at the Los Angeles Motor Show. There have been some shots taken of the car out on the test track, but of course the car was fitted with obscuring decals. All that can be seen is a new front grille shape, the alloys from the XKR-S and a spoiler. The spoiler in particular has drawn attention, because it is of course a very uncommon feature on Jaguars.
Many are hopeful that the release of the XFR-S might mean that the already very reasonably priced XFR will drop in used value. Exchange and Mart offer a range of new and used cars, and they are one of the best resources on the internet to find great deals on cars.
