The DIY Guide To Building An Amazing Car Audio Setup

by  |  On August 25th, 2014  |  In Do it Yourself, Tips & Guides

The quality of a car’s audio system varies from model to model. It’s no big secret that some cars just have better stereo systems than others! You will often find that cars at the higher end of the market have decent audio setups.

But what if you’ve got a “normal” car with an average audio setup? A lot of people don’t care about the sound quality. There are some people that do, and it bugs them to listen to their favourite music on tinny, low-quality speakers!

Have you had enough with your car’s “stereo” system? If yes, today’s handy blog post will show you how can get rid of your mediocre system and replace it with one of awesome proportions!

Do a bit of stripping

Please, keep your clothes on! Before you upgrade the sounds in your car, the first step is to sound-deaden the interior. After all, you don’t want the whole to hear your music when you’ve got your windows up! Sound deadening your car is quite a long process, so you should be happy to spend at least a full day on the job. You will need to remove your car seats, door cards, carpets and roof lining.

Once your car’s interior is bare, you can affix some sound deadening material to it. There are many different materials that you can get, but I recommend getting material that has adhesive on one side. Some folks prefer to use spray glue; it’s all down to personal choice. Once you’re done, it’s time to upgrade your car stereo. Don’t put everything back in just yet!

Head unit

In the car audio world, the “head unit” is the stereo system. The one that came with your car is mediocre, and needs removing immediately!

There are plenty of choices for its replacement. You can get a CD player or one that has DAB digital audio. You can even get one that plays DVDs and has a fold-out LCD touchscreen display!

You need to make sure the head unit you buy has at least two “pre-outs.” They are the connections that get used with amplifiers.

Speakers

The next step is to remove your old, tinny speakers. Make sure you get ones that fit your doors, otherwise you will have to do a lot of modifying!

Again, there are plenty of options. Do some online reviews to see which ones are best for your budget.

Amplifier

All head units have built-in amplifiers. But, according to Motorline Direct, they aren’t powerful. To remedy the problem, you need to use an external amplifier. There are plenty of guides online that show you how to install them.

Finishing touches

After you have tested your upgraded system, it’s time to put your car interior back together again! Make sure that you don’t put your amplifier underneath the carpet, as it needs air to “breathe.”

I hope that this guide has been useful for you. Once you have used it, feel free to post up about your car audio upgrade experience. Thanks for reading!
